NOTES TO CONTRIBUTORS
I. General Guides
I.1 The editors of the JOURNAL OF THE FISHERIES SOCIETY OF TAIWAN welcome the submission of articles from various fisheries disciplines which are of interest to the fisheries profession.
I.2 The journal publishes three types of articles:
I.2.1 Regular paper. Manuscript must be original and must not have been previously published in or submitted for publication to any other journal. A model plan for the construction of a regular paper is as follows: 1. Abstract, 2. Introduction, 3. Materials and Methods, 4. Results, 5. Discussion, 6. Acknowledgements, and 7. References.
I.2.2 Short note. This is a brief report of scientifically sound research of limited scope, new experimental methods, and the like. It should not exceed 4 printed pages and needs not to have the formal organization of a regular paper.
I.2.3 Review. This will be received by invitation by the editor and will be subject to editorial review. Volunteered review is also welcome.
I.3 Proceedings of symposia, workshops and the like may be accepted for publication as supplements to the journal and are subject to the approval of the society.
I.4 The FISHERIES SOCIETY OF TAIWAN, publisher of the JOURNAL OF THE FISHERIES SOCIETY OF TAIWAN, holds the copyright on all journal articles.
II. Manuscript Preparation:
II.1 Manuscript should be written in English with double spacing on one side of white bond or other good quality A4 paper. Leave left and right margins at least 30 mm. After save your manuscript as Word (.docx) file (Send two complete copies of the manuscripts in Microsoft Word file and Portable Document Format (PDF) to the Editor-in-Chief at the following E-Mail address: journal.fst@gmail.com or you may mail your printed manuscript to the Editor-in-Chief
II.2 The title page should include:
II.2.1 Complete title of the manuscript. When a paper is a part of a series, please still use independent tile for each paper. A paper has a series title with a specific subtitle is not recommended.
II.2.2 Running title is 50 character maximum including spaces.
II.2.3 The full name of the author(s) should be typed under the title.
Example: Jason Link, Jay Burnett, Paul Kostovick and John Galbraith
II.2.4 The author(s) affiliation(s) and the address for correspondence should be given as a footnote on the first page. Footnotes should be marked using asterisks 1, 2, 3, etc.
Example: 1National Marine Fisheries Service, Northeast Fisheries Science Center, Woods Hole, MA 02543, U.S.A
II.3 Abstract. The abstract must be a single paragraph of 300 words or less. It should contain the objective of the study, a concise description of the design and a clear statement of the results and conclusions. Because the abstract must often stand on its own, abbreviations should be avoided.
II.4 Authors are requested to write own about 5 key words immediately in a new line below the abstract. They are preferably to be selected from the title and abstract of the article.
II.5 Text. The text must be clear, concise and understandable. It should be grammatically correct language without euphemism or laboratory jargon. Use declarative sentences and avoid the passive voice. Use the first person when appropriate. Use past tense when referring to the study on which the paper is based. Reserve present tense for referring to existing knowledge or prevailing concepts and for stating conclusions. Use Arabic rather than Roman numerals and cardinal rather than ordinal numbers throughout, including references to tables and figures, e.g., Group 3, not the third group or Group lll; Table 1, not table l.
II.6 References. Authors are responsible for the accuracy of all literature citations. Article accepted for publication but not published may be cited as "in press". Such paper must actually been accepted when final revisions are completed on the current article. In the text, cite references by author and year of publication: Example: Shrimp were fed as previously described (Liao, 1990). We analyze data by the method of Liao and Hsieh (1988). When citing an article that has more than two authors, use “et al.,” e.g., “Brown et al. (1993) investigated…”. When citing multiple references together, include them in chronological rather than alphabetical order, e.g., “Other investigators (Peng, 1983; Liao and Hsieh, 1988; Yang et al., 1989) found…”.
If an author's name in the list is also mentioned with co-authors, the following order should be used:
Publications of the single author, arranged according to publication dates–publication of the same author with one co-author-publications of the author with more than one coauthor. Publications by the same author(s) in the same year should be listed as 1993a, 1993b, etc. Use the following system for arranging your references:
